Cleanroom Definition: As-Built
Condition where the installation is complete with all services connected and functioning but with no production equipment, materials or personnel present.

Condition where the installation is functioning in the specified manner, with the specified number of personnel present and working in the manner agreed upon.
Cleanroom Definition: Discrete Particle Counter (DPC)
A light scattering instrument or other instrument with display or recording means to count and size discrete particles in air.
Cleanroom Definition: HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filter
An extended-medium, dry-type filter in a rigid frame, having minimum particle-collection efficiency of 99.97% (i.e. a maximum particle penetration of 0.03%) for 0.3um particles of specified aerosol.
Cleanroom Definition: ULPA (Ultra-Low Penetration Air) Filter
An extended-medium, dry-type filter in a rigid frame, having minimum particle-collection efficiency of 99.999% for particles in the size range of 0.1um to 0.2um when tested in accordance with accepted test methods.
Cleanroom Definition: Calibrated Equipment
Test Equipment that has been calibrated in accordance with the equipment manufacturers recommendations or accepted industry practices.
Cleanroom Definition: Non-unidirectional airflow cleanroom
A cleanroom in which the filtered air entering the room or passing the through the work zone if characterised by non-uniform velocity or turbulent flow.
Such rooms exhibit non-uniform, random airflow patters throughout the enclosure.
Cleanroom Definition: Unidirectional Airflow
Airflow with a demonstrated deviation of not more that 14 degrees from straight line flow through the work zone.
Cleanroom Definition: Unidirection Airflow Cleanroom / Laminar airflow Cleanroom
A cleanroom in which the filtered air entering the room makes a single pass through the work area in a parallel-flow pattern, with a minimum of turbulent flow areas.
Unidirectional airflow rooms typically have coverage of 80% or more of the area of the ceiling (for vertical flow) or one wall (for horizontal flow) with the HEPA or ULPA filter medium or free-flow area.
Cleanroom Definition: Uniform Airflow
A unidirectional airflow pattern in which the point-to-point readings are within a relative standard deviation of 15% of the average airflow velocity for the total area of the unidirectional flow work zone.
Cleanroom Definition: Cleaning Agent
Any liquid that has the ability to aid in the removal of surface contamination, is compatible with the product and process, and does not contribute substantially to the contamination of the cleanroom.
Cleanroom Definition: Contamination
Act or result of the deposition of contaminant on a surface
Cleanroom Definition: Contaminant
Any unwanted substance present in or on a material or any surface within a clean zone
Cleanroom Definition: Controlled Environment
An environment in which parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity, and contamination levels, are controlled with specified limits.
Cleanroom Definition: Housekeeping
Maintenance or cleaning performed to preserve the specified cleanliness of a cleanroom.
Cleanroom Definition: Particle Burden
Number of Particles in the relevant size range per unit area
Cleanroom Definition: Primary Surface
Surface that is in direct contact with the product
Cleanroom Definition: Secondary Surface
Surface that is not in contact with the product but indirectly affects the product.
