Keyboard Cleaning Guide UK & Ireland

April 29th, 2007

Nobody likes working at a dirty keyboard but as we spend more and more time at our computer our keyboards become dirtier and dirtier. They can end up covered in food crumbs, paper, hair, skin and germs.

Cleaning a computer keyboard can be done in one of two ways

A surface keyboard clean – takes approximately 20 minutes A deep keyboard clean – takes approximately 1 hour Before you start, you will need a number of Items, all of the below items are available from our on-line store.

As you will see from the below guides, cleaning keyboards can take up a lot of your valuable time. If you would like for us to send somebody out to your office to clean your keyboards, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We can clean the following equipment

1) Guide to doing a Surface Clean of Your Keyboard

  • Turn off your computer
  • Unplug your keyboard
  • Holding the keyboard over your bin, turn it upside and shake it. Shake from side to side and then shake in a back and forth motion
  • Still keeping the keyboard upside over your bin, tilt it to the left and shake and then tilt it to the right and shake.
  • Place the edge of the keyboard on your table, then use your can of compressed air to blow any remaining debris from underneath your keys.
  • Place the keyboard flat on the desk and using the swabs to clean the keys.
  • Now use the cleaning wipes to wipe the entire keyboard.
  • Using the lint free cloth, wipe down the keyboard
  • You should now have a clean keyboard
  • 2) Deep Clean – for standard keyboard only (not laptop keyboards)

  • Turn off your computer
  • Unplug your keyboard
  • Holding the keyboard over your bin, turn it upside and shake it. Shake from side to side and then shake in a back and forth motion
  • Still keeping the keyboard upside over your bin, tilt it to the left and shake and then tilt it to the right and shake.
  • Take a digital photograph of your keyboard, making sure you can clearly read all the keys (so you can put them back in the right position later on).
  • Using the small flat head screw gently leverage one of the keys off, we recommend starting with the ALT key
  • Once all the keys are off, you can wipe down and clean the main keyboard section using the wipes and then drying it with the lint free cloth
  • Once the keys have been removed, you can also begin cleaning each key individually using the wipes and then drying the lint free cloth.
  • Once the keys have been cleaned you can now start replacing the keys onto the keyboard, using the digital picture that you took before you started.
  • Some Notes

Please make sure the computer is turned off and the keyboard is unplugged before cleaning your keyboard

When removing the keys from the keyboard, please be very careful not to damage them. If you are unsure please contact us.
