Raised Access Floor Tile Lifters

March 20th, 2007

There are two main types of raised access floor tile lifters

  1. Suction Cup Lifters
  2. Spiked Lifters

Suction Cup Lifters come in three main varieties

  • Single Cup tile lifter - suitable for ceramic tiling
  • Double Cup tile lifter - suitable for lifting raised access floors
  • Tripe Cup tile lifter - suitable for carrying glass

These types of lifters use the power of suction to lift lift the access floor tile.

When lifting a metal finish or lifting an anti-static raised access floor we recommend the following procedures:

  • Remove two double cup floor lifters from their wall brackets (for safety we recommend always using two lifters)
  • Make sure suction cups are free from dust and debris
  • Make sure tile to be lifted is free from obtruction and free from dust / debris
  • Note that dust / debris will affect the suction strength
  • Place both floor lifters firmly on the tile to be lifted ensuring seal has been created
  • Lift the tile and place to one side - ensuring direction of tile has not been changed
  • Don’t lift any more than 5 tiles at any one time
  • If a tile is stuck try hitting it with a mallet to loosen it or if you don’t have a mallet to make sure you don’t damage the tile, place timber and then hit it with a hammer

Floor Tile Lifters for Carpet Floor Tiles

There are raised access floor tiles that have a carpet finish factory bonded to it. In order to lift this type of tile you need what can be called “Spiked Floor Lifter”,”Carpet Panel Lifter“, “Carpet Tile Lifter“, or “Carpet Lifter“.

This type of lifter uses extremely sharp spikes to “catch” the carpet tile and lift both the carpet tile and the raised access floor tile.

When lifting a raised access floor tile with a factory bonded carpet finish we recommend the following procedure:

Please note the spikes on this lifter are extremely sharp and should be treated with caution

  • Make sure the spikes on the carpet lifter are retracted
  • Place carpet lifter on the tile to be lifted
  • Press firmly down on handle to extend the spikes deeply into the carpet tile
  • Gently pull the lifter to make sure you have a strong connection
  • Once strong connection is established, lift the tile.
  • Make sure to lift and replace the tile without changing direction as the change in the carpet grain / patter will be seen
  • Don’t take up more than 5 tiles at any one time
  • If a tile is stuck try hitting it with a mallet to loosen it or if you don’t have a mallet to make sure you don’t damage the tile, place timber and then hit it with a hammer

We sell all types of suction cup lifters, carpet tile lifters and wall brackets. We also deliver nationwide in the UK & Ireland, so if you would like to talk to us about the right lifter to suit your needs, please feel free to contact us.
